COVID-19: Our preventive measures and special offers

Updated on August 30 2022

Physical distancing and compliance with hygiene measures remain essential to curb the impact of the second wave and limit the spread of COVID-19. Telecommuting remains the norm for our employees, with the exception of the fleet agents who are mainly responsible for cleaning and maintaining vehicles, and who have no contact with the public.

The past summer has demonstrated the importance of carsharing in providing mobility. Tens of thousands of households rely on us to provide them with a convenient and safe means of getting around.

That’s why we have decided to continue our activities while putting in place prevention measures and special offers for all members, especially for community organizations.

Our preventive measures

As vehicles are confined spaces, you are not exposed to droplets or aerosols there unless you are accompanied. In this, it is a relatively safe environment, especially if you take the time to ventilate the car before your trip. This does not prevent us from giving due importance to cleaning.

Given the nature of our service, it is impossible for us to guarantee the disinfection of vehicles between two uses. For this reason, certain precautions should be taken to avoid contracting or spreading the virus through contact.

These hygiene measures are now well known and accessible to all:

  • Clean the steering wheel, or other surfaces, with wipes and alcohol-based disinfectant before you leave. When using FLEX vehicles, a free period of up to 15 minutes is offered to you for this purpose.
  • Avoid touching your hands to your mouth, nose, or face after using a vehicle before washing your hands with warm running water and soap for at least 20 seconds.
  • Wash your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer after using the vehicle if you do not have access to soap and water.

More than ever, it is important never to leave any waste (tissues, cups, food wrappers, etc.) in vehicles. Make sure you collect everything before you leave.

In FLEX vehicles in Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Calgary, an effort is made to provide containers of alcohol-based disinfectant solutions for sanitizing hands. The measure was however abandoned in round-trip vehicles available by reservation where (due to the specific dynamics of reservation-based service) it was impossible for us to ensure good distribution. It is important to note that we do not provide cleaning wipes. In any case, it is strongly recommended that you do not take the chance and bring your own container of alcohol-based disinfectant solution and bring wipes if you wish to clean the contact surfaces in the vehicle.

If you have symptoms of illness

In this case, we recommend that you do not use our vehicles. If you need to do this, it is extremely important that you let us know so that we can block the vehicle and can disinfect it.

If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, you must not, under any circumstances, use a Communauto vehicle. If you have to travel in such a case, you must contact the public health office in your region which will take charge of your transportation arrangements.

We are counting on everyone’s collaboration to help us, collectively, emerge from this crisis and invite you to report to us, if necessary, any situation and/or any inappropriate behavior.
