The Long Distance rate gets a makeover

The success of last year’s promotions on the posted price of the Long Distance rate has encouraged us to extend this offer all year long. This will allow us to better distribute the kilometres driven on all our vehicles and to renew them faster in the future. It will be done as follows:

- The $29.95/day ($185.69/week)* rate will now apply throughout the year on our entire fleet;

- A reduced rate will apply at all times on 20% of our vehicles whose use will have been below average.

The vehicles subject to this doubly reduced rate will continue to be offered at $24.95/day ($154.69/week)* and will be identified with a sun in RÉSERVauto.

To enable the transition towards this new type of pricing, vehicles reserved at the Long Distance rate between September 15 and October 1st, 2013 will be at a rate of $24.95/day*, regardless of the trip’s starting date.

Starting October 1st, you will have to search for the vehicles identified with a sun in RÉSERVauto to take advantage of this promotion.

Remember that to take advantage of the Long Distance rate, you must check this option when reserving a vehicle.

* The Long Distance rate constitutes reduced rates compared to regular rates, thus Communauto reserves the right to modify these prices at any times. Kilometre fees and taxes not included

One-way carsharing: the City of Montreal must demand excellence and aim for a 100% electric fleet

Communauto revealed this morning, September 26th, the preliminary results of its 100% electric one-way carsharing pilot project, launched last June on the Plateau-Mont-Royal: Auto-mobile. The aim of the pilot project is to evaluate the benefits and impacts of such a service so that the City of Montreal can, subsequently, make a decision based on concrete experience regarding the implementation of such a service in Montreal.

Two main conclusions have emerged from this first analysis. The first conclusion is that Auto-mobile replaces with car trips a significant number of trips that would have normally been made with other modes of transportation (public transit, taxi, walking or cycling). Nevertheless, several observations support the hypothesis that this service could contribute, in the end, to consolidate the transportation offers competing with individual car ownership and allow for the decrease of household motorization.

[…]

The second conclusion is that this project could potentially be the key to launching the electrification process of the vehicle fleet of a city like Montreal.

More details about the preliminary results of the project are available at http://www.communauto.com/auto-mobile/rapport.pdf (in French)

50 new on-street parking spaces dedicated to carsharing on the Plateau-Mont-Royal

On September 18, at the Intermodality and Carsharing Symposium in Québec City, Benoît Robert, president and founder of Communauto, announced that the fifty on-street parking spaces dedicated to carsharing on the Plateau-Mont-Royal were finally put in place (see map).

[…]

Mr. Robert reminded that “the cities of London and Sydney have shown that providing on-street parking dedicated to carsharing is a key element in the success of this type of service. As these vehicles become increasingly accessible and well distributed in neighbourhoods, carsharing becomes an effective and efficient alternative to owning a car. We therefore welcome the Plateau-Mont-Royal’s initiative and hope that together we will succeed in reducing the number of cars on the road.
