Use your OPUS card to disable the anti-theft device on our vehicles
As you may have read in our last edition of L'écho-mobile (October 2012), close to fifty vehicles, including all our electric vehicles, will soon be equipped with our new readers which are compatible with the OPUS cards. The installations are underway.
If everything goes as planned, these new readers will replace the ones our cars were equipped with before 2011 once the pilot phase is completed.
You don't have an OPUS card? The radiofrequency identification (RFID) keys which were distributed to all our members prior to 2011 also work with the new readers. If you have neither one of these (OPUS card or RFID key), an RFID key is provided with the keys of all the cars involved in the pilot project. At the time of your reservation, a vehicle memo will also let you know, whether your vehicle is equipped with the new reader.
Given the limited number of vehicles involved at the moment, we will not ask you just yet to enter in RÉSERVauto the OPUS card number that you will eventually use to access our vehicles. This means that for now, any OPUS card can disable the anti-theft device of a vehicle. For this reason, the option to unlock the doors with the OPUS cards has been blocked (but can be done with the RFID keys). This will no longer be the case once the software integration of the new reader with RÉSERVauto will be completed.
In order to get acquainted with the new reader, we invite you to try it out with your OPUS card and with the RFID key. Your comments will help us prepare for the technological transition that lies ahead.
REMINDER: if you are planning to use a Vrtucar vehicle in Ottawa, make sure you have a RFID key, since most Vrtucar stations (www.communauto.com/vrtucar/index_ENG.html) do not have key boxes.
The Prius C is coming to town!
Next week, two new Toyota Prius C hybrid vehicles will be incorporated in Communauto's Montreal fleet. These two vehicles are the first hybrid vehicles to be integrated into our fleet. They will be available at the same rate as the other Communauto vehicles and do not need to be plugged-in. These vehicles will be located at the stations Saint-Sacrement (002) as well as Henri-Julien and De Castelneau (124).
For Communauto, these vehicles are another way to achieve our mission of reducing the environmental impact of motorized transportation. Communauto would like to have a greater number of these vehicles in 2013, however this model has a limited availability for automobile fleets. We will keep you informed of any new developments as we try to acquire more of these vehicles.
In the meantime, have a nice eco-trip and don't forget that the 100% electric Nissan LEAFs are also available!
Reservations during the holidays
In order to maximize the availability of our vehicles, in the Montreal and Quebec areas reservations at the Long Distance rate that include December 24th and 25th or December 31st and January 1st are only permitted for reservations covering a minimum of four days. Shorter reservations during this period will only be possible at your package's basic rate or they will be forwarded to one of our rental partners (Discount, Via Route, Budget or Enterprise).
To help encourage a respectful use of reservations, the A50 penalty (50% of the cost of the cancelled portion of the trip) will apply if a trip including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day that is reserved under the Long Distance rate is shortened below four days. This restriction applies regardless of the period preceding the cancellation or the shortening of the reservation.
Please note that the A50 penalty will only apply to the days or portions of days that fall below the four day minimum (e.g.: a five day trip shortened to three will only lead to a one day penalty and not two).
